Description
Did you know that stingrays are distant cousins of the shark?
The Southern Stingray is commonly found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. It has a flat, diamond-shaped body, with a mud brown upper-body, white underbelly and venomous barbed tail.
These call the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco home. The wonderful large pool with its variety of species fascinates visitors of all ages and provides lots of exercise space for its inhabitants.
Golden Gate Park, with its CAS, deYoung Museum, Flower Conservatory, Tea House, Stoll Lake, musicians, and pop-up Frisbee games is worth a few days of visiting when you're in the area. And if you get tired of all park has to offer, cross Stanyan Street into The Haight.
