The Amiable Consort - this description of Mrs. Eunice Dewey's relationship to Cap't. Elijah Dewey amused and intrigued me. Amused when I first read it, since I had thought that a 'consort' was often a reference to an extramarital relationship. And intrigued because when I researched (not extensively, I admit), I found that Cap't. Elijah Dewey's wife's name appears to have been Mary.
I also liked the epitaph at the bottom of the stone.
This stone is among many others of the Revolutionary War time period in the graveyard adjoining First Church in Old Bennington, VT.
