Thank you, Martine, Tonia, and Phyllis! It really stands out amongst many old NE churches, so many of which are white clapboard. The warm tones of this stone sanctuary feels warm and welcoming to me.

Thank you all for your comments - it is indeed a lovely church. I'd driven past for YEARS and thought, each time, "I MUST bring my camera and get shots of this church." Finally had brain and camera together! Caroline, I shot from a couple different angles - the other side is lovely, too, with its tower and steeple, but I had a lot of trouble with distortion - couldn't really get back far enough.

Artist's Description

This lovely stone church sits in a small vale in Hoosick, NY, barely visible from NYS Route 7 as it heads toward Vermont.

All Saints Episcopal Church began as a missionary endeavor. In 1857, the Reverend G.B. Manser began traveling by horse and buggy from St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington, VT (about 9 miles away) to conduct services in the stone schoolhouse.

The congregation soon outgrew the schoolhouse. A local family, the Tibbits, began construction of this beautiful parish church in 1864.

When the stone bell tower was completed, the family donated a set of pealing bells, purchased at the Paris Exposition in 1867, and winners of first prize in Florence, Italy. The bells are designed with relief pictures: one with Madonna and Child, the other with the Crucifix. The small bell at the top of the tower dates back to 1578 and was purchased in Munich, Germany.

This lovely sturdy place of worship cost the Tibbits family $20,000, not includi...

About Carol Lynn Coronios

Carol Lynn Coronios

A photograph is visual emotion, running the gamut from stark images of horror—to ‘snapshots in time’ commemorating special moments—to pieces that draw you into their world as if they were magnetized. These are the photographs that evoke a gasp, a “WOW!” or an “awwwww.” I consider myself a visual historian. Whether taking photographs of you and your horse, an old barn, or a misty sunrise, I am preserving history. Not just for you, or that barn, or that sunrise - but for the memories each regenerates in others. Seeing (or hearing about) their reactions as they relive an experience or emotion—whether remembered or vicarious—makes my spirit sing. I research and provide background information if such is appropriate for a...
