When horse[show] people talk about a horse using its ears or 'good ears', they're commenting on the horse's ears being forward, which makes a more attractive picture than if the ears are back (generally interpreted as anger, but can be that the horse is listening to its rider or to something behind it) or just flopping out to the side (which they often are if the horse is half-asleep or just 'in a zone').
A photograph is visual emotion, running the gamut from stark images of horror—to ‘snapshots in time’ commemorating special moments—to pieces that draw you into their world as if they were magnetized. These are the photographs that evoke a gasp, a “WOW!” or an “awwwww.” I consider myself a visual historian. Whether taking photographs of you and your horse, an old barn, or a misty sunrise, I am preserving history. Not just for you, or that barn, or that sunrise - but for the memories each regenerates in others.
