Artist's Description

As we drove onto the Butterfly Conservatory grounds in 2009, this sculpture caught my eye. I slammed on the brakes, grabbed my camera, and jumped out of the car - "Oh my gosh - an iron butterfly!!!" Yeah, I'm that old.

I've played with the image on and off for six years - but as you can well imagine, I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone of 'reality'. About a year ago, I knew I was on the right track - and today (Nov 30, 2015), it finally came together.

The Butterfly Conservatory (on the Canadian side) is home to over 2,000 colorful tropical butterflies of 45 species - some very rare. Wandering down paths surrounded by lush blossoms and greenery, perhaps another song - Elusive Butterfly - comes to mind, as delicate wings brush your arm or face.

Seeing (or hearing about) their reactions as they relive an experience or emotion—whether remembered or vicarious—makes my spirit sing. I research and provide background information if such is appropriate for a...
