Artist's Description
A pair of draft horses head toward the finish line at a sleigh rally in upstate New York! While I don't know what breeding this pair is, they appear to me to be of different breeds because of their color, but they work well together.
If you look closely, you will see that the driver has them hooked so he only has one rein in each hand. See the 'X' between them? The left rein of the horse on your right crosses over and attaches to the left rein of the horse on your left - and vice versa with the right rein. Not all drivers hook this way. Some of the teamsters of four- and six-horse hitches have a real handful of rein!
About Carol Lynn Coronios
A photograph is visual emotion, running the gamut from stark images of horror—to ‘snapshots in time’ commemorating special moments—to pieces that draw you into their world as if they were magnetized. These are the photographs that evoke a gasp, a “WOW!” or an “awwwww.” I consider myself a visual historian. Whether taking photographs of you and your horse, an old barn, or a misty sunrise, I am preserving history. Not just for you, or that barn, or that sunrise - but for the memories each regenerates in others. Seeing (or hearing about) their reactions as they relive an experience or emotion—whether remembered or vicarious—makes my spirit sing. Nice action shot Carol. Beautiful animals!
Wonju H
How cool!
Carol Lynn Coronios replied:
Yes, it was, Wonju! About an hour into the competition, I had to go into the barn and thaw out my frozen fingers. So cold they were beginning to make me nauseous. But it was a lovely day (other than freezing) with beautiful, clean backgrounds available in two directions. A rarity at a competition!

This is perfection, Carol! I used to do this racing when I was a little girl in Wyoming and the image brings back so many wonderful memories.

Thank you, Heidi! What fun that it brought back memories for you. I bet you can imagine how cold it was, too!
