Great capture and theme with a nostalgic feel to it, Carol!

Thank you, Faye! I'm so glad I finally got brain, camera, and decent day together at the same time!

Another thank you for f/l, Betsy! Every time I have driven past this old inn in the past couple decades, I've said, "I need to get photos of that!" I FINALLY had my camera with me! It's probably Bennington, VT's most talked about structure - I'd guess even moreso than the Revolutionary War monument or Robert Frost's house.

Thank you, AnnaJo. I appreciate your l/f! Not sure inside this part would be too stable, even though the front (Not an Inn Any More) is inhabited. I am so tempted to write the ladies who live in it to see if they would allow me closer access, but I'm sure that they are fed-to-the-teeth with nosy/curious people with cameras and questions.

Fascinating subject....beautifully photographed, Carol. I can imagine the history. Love the rich details. I would love to explore inside it. f/l

Artist's Description

The Walloomsac Inn in Old Bennington, VT was built in 1764 and served as the meeting place for Revolutionary War militia and legislature (prior to and after Vermont became our 14th state), and later, a popular stagecoach stop between New York City and Boston.

Let your mind wander. What do the rooms look like behind those French doors? What DID they look like in the mid-1800s? Who sipped tea on the balconies? Who used that fire escape? What stories this old building could tell.

I love the reflections of the fire escape and tree branches in the windows.

There is a more complete history of this old building with Not an Inn Anymore.

About Carol Lynn Coronios

Carol Lynn Coronios

A photograph is visual emotion, running the gamut from stark images of horror—to ‘snapshots in time’ commemorating special moments—to pieces that draw you into their world as if they were magnetized. These are the photographs that evoke a gasp, a “WOW!” or an “awwwww.” I consider myself a visual historian. Whether taking photographs of you and your horse, an old barn, or a misty sunrise, I am preserving history. Not just for you, or that barn, or that sunrise - but for the memories each regenerates in others. Seeing (or hearing about) their reactions as they relive an experience or emotion—whether remembered or vicarious—makes my spirit sing. I research and provide background information if such is appropriate for a...
