Description
I enjoy seeing details - sometimes minute, sometimes just a piece of the whole.
A drop of water in the middle of a silver-green lily pad - with other pads in shades of red descending under the murky pond water, numerous bugs, a couple of submerged rocks and reflections of clouds - all this caught my eye as I explored the pond at Mohonk Mountain House.
Mohonk Mountain House is a 150 year old resort on the Shawangunk Ridge in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York State. Founded by Albert Smiley, a Quaker whose faith inspired him to convene annual conferences (from 1895 - 1916) for national and international leaders to meet and discuss world problems in an effort to find alternatives to war.
Smiley was also deeply committed to domestic peace. Reformers interested in Indian Affairs met each year from 1883 to 1916 at Lake Mohonk, New York, to discuss Indian matters and to make recommendations. Lake Mohonk Conferences of Friends of the Indian, held from 1883 - 1916, had tremendous impact on the formulation of federal policy. Google 'Friends of the Indians Mohonk' to read the proceedings of the 1816 conference.
Future generations of Smileys have focused on natural sciences and environment.

Marian, thank you! I suspect you replied quite a while ago - and am embarrassed that I didn't see it.
