This is tiny section of a HUGE pile of used horse shoes collected by eight generations of Kriz farriers.
Tim Kriz, an eighth generation family farrier comes from a long line of horseshoers. Tim's grandfather came to this country as an immigrant from Czechoslovakia, and settled in the Naugatuck Valley of Southwestern Connecticut where he found his skills as a farrier in immediate demand. Tim's father & uncle started the Kriz business & the family is still there and still shoeing horses. Where breed preference is concerned, Tim's breed of choice are Percherons. He also has been a formidable competitor at the big shows in the Northeast.
A photograph is visual emotion, running the gamut from stark images of horror—to ‘snapshots in time’ commemorating special moments—to pieces that draw you into their world as if they were magnetized. These are the photographs that evoke a gasp, a “WOW!” or an “awwwww.” I consider myself a visual historian. Whether taking photographs of you and your horse, an old barn, or a misty sunrise, I am preserving history. Not just for you, or that barn, or that sunrise - but for the memories each regenerates in others. Thank you, Shannon. If they sold each shoe, they'd be bazillionaires!
Shannon Story
This is a wonderful image and title. He should think about selling them as lucky horseshoes. I would buy one! :)
Melany Sarafis
WOW! That's a lotta shoes ;-) I love this original subject, I've never seen a photo (or picture) of horse shoes like this. Nice job!
Carol Lynn Coronios replied:
Thank you, Melany. This is only a TINY section of a pile that stands probably at least 20 feet high and close to that in diameter. Heaven only knows how far down it goes, as the weight surely has 'sunk' at least a few feet.

What a great image, great title and interesting info. Nice work, Carol.

Thank you! One of the 'funnest' things I learned through PPA competition was titling!

Thank you, Doug, for featuring "I Can't Find My Other Shoe".

Thank you, Lesa & Lisa! This pile is probably 15' high (and probably several feet underground, with all that weight) and maybe 15' in diameter. I think I was told that they'd disposed of one pile - or perhaps had moved to a different farm.
Lisa Holland
Very nice. I'd like to see this pile for myself!

Love this image Carol, great capture and eye for this one. Fav
